Designing My Own Neon Signs
Designing My Own Neon Signs
Jun 27 Designing My Own Neon Signs
Entrepreneurs want to have a hands-on approach on the running of their business. Seeing how neon open signs work for other places, I had to have my own. Buying ready-made open signs just wouldn’t work for me. I want my neon open sign to be unique and different form the rest of the stores on our area.
Open signs will be of great help to attract customers towards our business. In order for them to be seen right away, I ordered one in a pretty good size. Something that’s not only visible to walking customers but also to those driving or sitting in their vehicles. Choosing the text style is pretty easy. I opted for a horizontal unit with the text in standard form. Having loopy texts will be difficult to decipher in a distance. A lot of open signs I saw had a rectangular border over them so a circular one can break the monotony.

Neon signs are made of glass-tube bend to form letters or shape. The Open Coffee Neon Sign is placed vertically and use red, white, blue and green lights and used a black background to make the colorful lights glow brighter. You can also make your ice cream parlor a place to go for every ice cream lovers by putting an Ice Cream Open Sign with flashing letters or ice cream cone shaped sign in a vertical position.
Neon has featured heavily in the work of film directors looking to project a dystopian vision of the future, signifying the particular un-organic look its fluorescence communicates. A writer whose name escapes me once divided historians up between what he called parachutists and truffle hunters, meaning those who are driven by the broad sweeps of history and those who find meaning in the unexpected nuggets of stories often related by ordinary people. As designers we need to be both. We shouldn’t ignore the wider world around us-to take an interest in global trends will help improve our work as well as our character.
Neon signage is one such attribute, and there are countless others out there to explore. You will be too if you develop the visual awareness explained above, striding towards signs reading ‘Awards’ ‘Recognition’ and ‘Success’, in neon naturally!
