Additional lanes opening on Crawfordsville Road – Indianapolis Star
Jun 02With the Memorial Day weekend and Indianapolis 500 traffic fast approaching, state road workers are opening addition lanes on U.S. 136/Crawfordsville Road in Speedway.
The Indiana Department of Transportation will open the addition lanes on the two roads at the I-465 and I-74 interchanges on May 24.
— Eastbound U.S. 136 will have two lanes of through-traffic and a designated left-turn lane to northbound I-465 and westbound I-74.
— Westbound Crawfordsville Road will have two lanes of through-traffic and a designated left turn lane to southbound I-465.
Motorists headed to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway should be aware of new ramp configurations where I-74 and U.S. 136/Crawfordsville Road meet the I-465 loop.
The old cloverleaf exit has been redesigned and I-74 no longer ends at Crawfordsville Road. That change has occurred since last year’s race and is designed to provide safer and higher-speed ramps to I-74 and I-465, according to an INDOT release.
To get a look at the new interchange, go to www.Accelerate465.in.gov <<a href=”http://www.Accelerate465.in.gov” target=”_blank”>http://www.Accelerate465.in.gov>.
On race day, INDOT’s Traffic Management Center will guide fans to the safest and quickest route to the track, using lighted message signs.
Motorists who leave I-465 or I-74 and drive directly into Speedway should follow the signs to the new US 136/Crawfordsville Road ramps, which are controlled by signalized intersections.
INDOT, Indiana State Police and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway have identified routes to the track for motorists approaching from all directions. To see and become familiar with those recommendations, go to http://www.in.gov/isp/files/500_Roads_12.pdf.
Drivers can routinely find out about work zone locations and highway restrictions by calling INDOT’s TrafficWise at 1-800-261-ROAD (7623) or viewing an online map at www.TrafficWise.IN.gov.
INDOT also offers updates via Twitter and Facebook. For more information, go to www.socialmedia.indot.in.gov.
