AnaheimDucksBruce Boudreau was not out of work for very long after the Washington Capitals fired him earlier this season. Within a week he was hired by the Anaheim Ducks, and he led the team to a 27-23-4 record over the remainder of the season, which was a substantial improvement from what they had done under Randy Carlyle.

That improvement was apparently enough to earn Boudreau a two-year contract extension, as was announced on Thursday afternoon.

“Since joining the organization last November, Bruce has done an outstanding job with the team,” said General Manager Bob Murray in a statement. “He’s committed to us and determined to lead us back to the playoffs.”

Even with the improvement over the second half of the season, the early hole was too deep to overcome, and the Ducks fell short of the playoffs for the second time in the past three years.

Before joining the Ducks, Boudreau had spent parts of five years behind the Capitals bench. For his NHL career, he has compiled a 228-111-48 record in the regular season and advanced to the second round of the playoffs three times.

“I’m really happy about this,” said Boudreau. “I’m convinced we have a great core of players and a bright future, and I’m excited to be part of it.”
