S&C Electric Signs Deal For EDF Energy’s Fallago Rig Wind Farm – North American Windpower
May 07S&C Electric Europe Ltd., a division of S&C Electric Co., has won a contract to supply reactive compensation to EDF Energy Renewables’ Fallago Rig wind farm in the U.K. The site will consist of 48 turbines providing 144 MW of renewable energy.
S&C says its system will be designed to meet the U.K.’s strict compliance testing requirements – a prerequisite for wind farms to comply with the grid code interconnection standards. These standards enable effective operation of renewable energy plants with the grid and include complex interconnection specifications, which call for continuous voltage regulation or reactive-power control with very rapid response, S&C explains.
To guarantee grid code compliance, S&C will deliver a 60 MVA PureWave DSTATCOM Distributed Static Compensator to reduce voltage variations such as sags and surges, which can result from intermittent electricity generation.
The installation, which includes a five-year warranty supplied by local S&C site personnel, is expected to be complete in November.
