Center Grove High School is receiving extra cash to help cover the costs of participating in bands and choirs for students in need.

The money, from auto dealer Ray Skillman also will pay for displays for the high school’s art students and fund a summer program for Center Grove’s theater.

In July, Center Grove-area resident Skillman pledged to provide $ 10,000 per year for five years to the high school’s fine arts program. The money was part of a $ 1,050,000 advertising agreement with the district, most of which is covering the cost of student athletes’ performance fees. In return, Skillman is posting advertising signs on athletics facilities, scoreboards and concessions areas.

Skillman’s fine-arts money will be divided among the band, choir, orchestra, art and theater programs, with each receiving $ 10,000 over the five years. The art and theater programs will use the money to display students’ work and create summer camps for students, while the choir, marching band and orchestra will use their money for student scholarships.
