Advertising is a very important industry in most countries of the world. Without advertising, products will not get sold the way they should be sold. Without advertising, products and services will not appear as a necessity for the target market, seriously crippling the economic balance. Needless to say, without advertising, the world will be a less colorful place to live in. But because advertising is ever-present in our society, almost every ad fades into the background. This is exactly why advertisers and creative agencies are scrambling to find the next medium that will make the target audience stop and pay attention.
Vehicle wraps have been around for several years, but this method has yet to catch on with small advertisers who still believe that they are getting their money’s worth by investing in traditional advertising. Along with billboards, vehicle wraps are categorized as a form of outdoor advertising, which do not belong in the umbrella term of traditional or above the line advertising. Therefore, conservative advertisers are afraid of non-traditional forms like vehicle wraps because they do not understand the potential of this method.
Often, vehicle wraps will be seen on buses and train coaches, because there are a lot of people who will see them. Typically, a market will be segmented into gender, age, race, class, and location, and the product needs to be visible in the places where the people who belong in this segment usually are. Vehicle wraps need to be positioned where the target market is and will possibly spend their money, so you will often find bus wraps or car wraps in busy streets instead of roads in quiet residential areas.
Vehicle wraps are relatively inexpensive especially if you compare them with traditional advertising methods like print and TV advertisements. And because people do not have to pay to access the advertisement, they will probably more receptive to the selling message. Vehicle wraps also make room for a lot of creative possibilities—innovative ideas that can be best executed by using a large-format, interactive, and novel medium.
There are a lot of critics that will dismiss vehicle wraps as a novelty that will fade into obscurity and general “uncoolness,” but for the time being, it is a great alternative for small to medium companies who wish to get their messages out there where the target market can see. In this day and age, the field is pretty leveled and market share is all about how a company advertises its products and services.
