FRANKFORT, Ky. — A Senate committee has approved a bill that would allow the Amish to use reflective tape and lanterns on their horse-drawn buggies and wagons rather than the orange triangular slow-moving vehicle signs that some object to on religious grounds.
Members of the Senate Transportation Committee voted unanimously Wednesday in favor of the proposal by Sen. Ken Winters, a Murray Republican.
The bill requires that any non-motorized vehicle without a reflective sign must have 100 inches of one-inch gray or silver tape on the back, and 96 inches on the rest of the vehicle. It must also have lanterns that shine red on the back and sides of the vehicle and white on the front.

The bill is SB 75.
